The Pinks: Growing up in front of my lens!

The photoshoot I look forward to every single year!

Some clients start to feel more like family over time, and then there's the real-life sitcom of Kayla, her hilarious husband, Chris, and their almost four boys.

I met this amazing family six years ago when they booked a photo shoot for their oldest son, Ryker. Back then, he was so sweet and shy, and I just knew he was going to be a heartthrob. Now? He's the total golden child. He's growing up so fast, with a sense of humor and a smile that could melt a whole city. And he totally knows it.

Over the years I have had the pleasure of getting to know this family more, and it's been so much fun. They are warm, real, and absolutely chaotic—in the best way. Every year, I've had the privilege of capturing their wild and wonderful journey: the arrival of Raiden (the firecracker), then Rennick (the charm bomb), and now, we're counting down to baby number four — Raxton!

(Yes, all their names start with the letter R. Yes, it's amazing. No, I haven't mixed them up... that many times.)

Each session has been its own adventure. Think wrangling toddlers with the energy of caffeinated squirrels, chasing each other around with sticks, and roaring like a dinosaur to get them to smile. But in the middle of the madness, there's so much love—and so many moments that make me want to pause the shoot to take it all in.

Kayla is the calm of the storm. She's beautiful in that effortless, glow-from-within kind of way, and she's incredibly smart—like "I manage three (soon to be four) boys and still remember to coordinate outfits for photos" smart. Her kids have her kindness and spirit. I see it when Ryker asks thoughtful questions between shots or when Raiden shares his snack with his brother (usually... the fruit snacks are sacred).

And then there's Chris, the MVP of dad jokes. I'm pretty sure his goal each year is to get me to laugh so hard that the shots blur. Mission consistently accomplished. His goofy rom-com energy is infectious, and it's clearly rubbed off on the boys. Rennick, in particular, has inherited his dad's comedic timing and dramatic silly faces. Future class clown? Highly likely.

Watching this family grow has been one of the most heartwarming parts of my career as a photographer. What started as a simple client relationship has turned into a yearly tradition I genuinely look forward to. It's more than just snapping pictures—it's watching little personalities unfold, seeing a family's love stretch and strengthen, and capturing memories that are both beautiful and real.

As we get ready to welcome Raxton to the crew, I can't help but feel honored to document another chapter in their story. One more little boy to love, to laugh with, and—let's be real— to chase around with my camera.

Thank you, Kayla and Chris, for letting me be a part of your big, beautiful life. I’ve watched your family grow, and you’ve watched my business grow. Here's to more years of laughter, chaos, and unforgettable moments to come!

Hannah’s Graduation Portraits in Davis

Nursing Graduate Portrait Session

Hannah's path toward nursing stemmed from her fascination with the subject and the desire to help people with what she has learned. Whenever I'm around Hannah, I know she's destined to do great things. Her drive is inspiring, and she illuminates a room with her light. She is gorgeous both inside and out, and I know she will help many people throughout her career. It reminds you to listen to what the universe calls you to do and do it! Although she had just graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a bachelor's in Nursing, she was nice enough to come to me, so we walked around Davis to keep the campus feel! Luckily, hiking is one of her hobbies because she was so sweet as I dragged her around the huge campus. You can't even tell we walked five miles because she still looks perfect in every single photo. Hannah is going to go for her Masters in Nursing next, and maybe even Midwife! (If I ever get pregnant one day, I'll have a friend in the baby business!) Hannah, I'm so proud of you! If you can inspire me by simply being yourself, imagine how many people you will touch with your passion and accomplishments. Now, go get that masters!

Beautiful 20 Year Anniversary in Davis

I was so touched when Kaycee reached out to me about a special family session for her parents' twenty-year wedding anniversary! Kaycee came from Oregon to witness her family together for the special occasion. I could feel so much warmth and joy radiating from her entire family. Even the kids brought fun energy and genuine laughter into their session!

Terri and Bob explained that they met when they had three kids each and were going through separations when they found each other. Due to their history, they took their time getting settled into their relationship, but Bob told me it was worth the wait. The church, Davis United Methodist Church, holds a very special place in their hearts because it was the venue where they married each other. The garden at this church was beautiful, and the kids got to frolic around while we took pictures!

I'm excited for this family and honored that I was able to celebrate their huge twenty-year marriage milestone!

Chemistry That Doesn’t Need Tutoring

Davis Maternity Session

Hanging out with Aaron and PJ immediately feels like home to me. I'm not surprised since PJ reminds me a lot of my sister with her bubbly personality and because of Aaron's PhD. Hanging out with them feels like I've known them forever.

PJ and Aaron radiate warmth and kindness and have the most infectious laughs and even bigger hearts. It only takes a few minutes to see they're truly best friends and belong side by side, doing life together.

I fell in love with PJ before I met her - when I was an admin, I had photos of all associates on my computer. PJ stood out to me the most because hers was the most joyful and energetic compared to everyone else. So, when I found out she was pregnant, I knew I had to get her in front of my camera. When I finally met Aaron, I knew she had picked a good one. They told me the cutest story of the meeting because PJ needed a chemistry tutor. I joked, wait, the chemistry between you guys does not need tutoring.

Aaron has recently graduated from UC Davis with his PhD in Chemistry, and PJ has been staying at home with Freyja. I've had the pleasure of getting to know them more closely this year, all because of a (short-lived) romance I had on my own. I learned how hardworking, selfless, and full of love their whole family is. It doesn't take a house to make a home; it's the love inside of it. Freyja entering the picture has been such a breath of fresh air for everyone who meets her and has immediately become the heart of their home.

So, when PJ told me she was pregnant for a second time, I knew how big of a deal it was for her and her family. And now, especially knowing that this baby's name belongs to Aaron's dad, Jack.

PJ and Aaron, thank you so much for trusting me to be your photographer and letting me into your home to get to know you and your family more (even if it was short-lived). I truly loved EVERY minute with you two (seriously, if I could clone you, I would), and I cannot WAIT to meet Jack! I hope you'll love these photos of your maternity session as much as I loved creating them. Please stay in touch!

How to take a Photo with your Mom

I was a photo major at Sac State a few years back. There was this one semester that my class and I hosted our own gallery. For my piece, I created cinematic movie stills. I worked with studio lighting, and I hired my friends to act out the scenes. I even made my own marquees— just like the ones that light up at movie theaters. The hardest part about the project was cutting the glass for the marquees. I shattered around ten sheets of glass before I finally got one to fit inside the frame. In order to get it to the studio I had to wrap it up in bubble wrap, blankets and I even seat belted it in my car.

Once I finally got to the studio, and started setting up, I got a call from my dad. He let me know that my mom was in the hospital, and there was a good chance that she wasn’t going to make it. Now my mom’s okay, she’s still alive. But in the moment while my dad and I talked, I gripped the marquee so tightly— the glass shattered.

But I didn’t care. Because in that moment, I realized something that made a pivote in my photography career. I realized in that moment that there are so many cool things that you can do with photography. I mean heck, you can create cinematic movie stills and hang them up in lights. But in that moment I realized that the coolest thing that you can do with photography— is you can take a photo with your mom.

Now at the time, my mom and I didn’t have to many photos together. And why who’s fault is that?! My mom isn’t a flashy person, so hiring a photographer is out of her element. As for me, I just always thought there would be more time. But there isn’t always more time…

So, let’s get into it!

Everything that I’m about to teach you can be done with a camera or a phone. You can do this at a gorgeous venue, or in a Walmart parking lot. The rules will stay same regardless!

How to take a good photo with your Mom:

Step One— I want you and your mom to stand in a spot with even lighting from head to toe. Now “even light” is just a fancy photographers way of saying find shade. ;) Bonus points is you can find a spot that’s completed shaded from head to toe, but you can still look up and see the sky. The reason why, is because if you find a place that’s covered (like under a tree), then the photo could be too dark, and could have a weird color cast. So find a spot that has even lighting from head to toe where you can still look up and see the sky!

Step Two— The background of the image also needs to have even lighting from top to the bottom. This means that the same shade that you’re in, the background needs to be just as shaded too. The reason why, is because if the background is lighter than the shady spot that you’re standing in, then it will be too distracting. When you look at the photo on your screen, then your eye will naturally gravitate towards the background. We are PEOPLE. CENTERED. photographers!! We want our mom to be the star of the photo! So choose a spot that has even light from head to toe, and even light in the background.

Step Three— We can place our moms in the most beautiful lighting in the world, but if she doesn’t look good in the photo she’s just going to whine, “my arm looks fat, delete it!” But seriously, if we don’t like the way that we look in our photos, then we’re never going to post them on social media, and we’re definitely never going to print them! And that’s how photos get lost. So, I’m going to teach you how to pose your mom. Have her stand at a 45 degree angle, then have her twist her torso towards the camera. What this does is it creates a sliver effect with her body. Bonus points if you can get her to pop her foot! Close the space in-between you guys, and go cheek to cheek! (My mom has a bad hip, so I couldn’t get her to do the pose. I’ll try to add some more examples later. ;) )

That’s it!
I hope that this inspired at least one person to take a photo with your mom. <3
